Description

I submitted this work for an art contest...that....well...doesn't look like there's going to be a resolution to. I did get a couple of the judges opinions on my art....and they were quite dead on with their critiques. I really enjoyed this piece...but after their critiques I see my errors....and will eventually fix them...but for now....Lifes Interruptions in its raw form!

heh I was one of those critiquers :p

Here's what I wrote then......

Amazing take on the theme...

I'm afraid it still has some issues. As Arenhaus would say 'Compartmentalized Color' check his site at www.chisledrocks.com for the essay he wrote on the subject. Ugh, avoid the burn'dodge tool...

While the thought of an illuminated future may sound appealing in theory, you can't just have all of that blue localized in one area. If it weren't for the white spot in the middle in the background, my eyes would have never left the blue area. In fact, the pure black is well...just sooo pure it's distracting as well. Perhaps adding hues of blue at the bottom, would bring more interest to the subterranean area and help balance the piece. Using a complementary color pallete is also something you want to traverse carefully, as the blues and oranges are fighting for dominance, only the 'interruptions' throught help push the orange into the background. If you squint while looking at this you will see that it is divided equally into thirds, blue/middle/black....

The effects and texture are fantastic, the roots are well rendered as well as the anatomy of the shroom. I'm really tempted to try and peek into one of the holes to see what creativity is being brewed there

I gotta say this is much more impressive in this higher res version (thumbup)

Yes! Wysiwyg i agree with everything you say....excellent points. I would even take it one step further and say that most should try to never use black as a color but instead darker hues of other colors to simulate the darker areas of our art. Unfortunately I don't always practice what I preach...hard for me to see what I'm doing sometimes when I'm in the middle of it all I guess...I will start paying more attention to my work...thanx for the constructive critique!
